Description: 1909-11 T206, Old Mill Southern Association - Archie Persons, Montgomery Senators - SGC 1 On the Card & Back - The 1909-1911 T206 set is considered by many as the most important baseball card set in the hobby field. Together with the 1933 Goudey and 1952 Topps sets, the T206 completes the “Big Three” classic baseball card sets. Affectionately named “The Monster” based on its 524-card size, the T206 is home to some of the most valuable vintage baseball cards, including the famed T206 Honus Wagner rarity. The Southern League cards are a popular (and difficult to find) subset of the T206 collection, featuring 48 players from four minor leagues: the Texas, South Atlantic, Virginia, and Southern Association. These cards come with three different backs: Piedmont 350 (generally the most common), Old Mill (rarer and more sought after), and Brown Hindu (the rarest of the three). On the Player - Archie Lee Persons (1881-1959) was a career minor league baseball player known for his speed and versatility on the field. Born in Arkansaw, Wisconsin, he attended the University of Wisconsin, where he played college baseball and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1906. In 1908, Persons (also spelled Parsons in some publications) played for the Montgomery Senators of the Southern Association, recording a .279 batting average with 65 runs and 34 stolen bases over 447 at-bats. Beyond his baseball career, Persons had a diverse background. He briefly attended the United States Military Academy at West Point but was discharged in 1901 due to academic deficiencies. After his athletic endeavors, he settled in Wisconsin, where he operated a general store and worked as a salesman.
