Description: Up for sale is a 1919 WWI US Army CO. 1121 Regt. Casual Vessel USS Henderson, Jewish Welfare Board Post Card. This "Hello-Just got back, Am feeling Great, Will Write soon, again." This post card was sent from a soldier friend of my grandmothers named Scoop on 6/2/19. These postcards were made available for free to military personnel by the Jewish Welfare Board, U.S. Army & Navy. He was on the USS Henderson Ship, returning from Europe and was going to Camp Mills in New York. This card was copyrighted in 1919. Cartoonist M. Weiss drew the returning soldier. You can see a German spiked helmet souvenir strapped onto his backpack. Printed where the stamp ordinarily would have gone is: "Soldiers Mail." This card is printed on both sides. The sender wrote in pencil. It measures 5 1/2" long by 3 3/8" tall. The first USS Henderson (AP-1) was a transport in the United States Navy during World War I and World War II. In 1943, she was converted to a hospital ship and commissioned as USS Bountiful (AH-9). Camp Mills was a military installation on Long Island, New York. It was one of three camps under control of the New York Port of Embarkation with a capacity for 40,000 transient troops. The mission of Camp Mills was initially the preparation of Army units prior to their deployment to Europe in World War I. With the end of World War I in November 1918, Camp Mills then performed a mission to process the thousands of troops back into the United States as a demobilization center. Many returning units passed through it and were either demobilized or sent to other camps across the United States where the men were processed out of the Army and returned to civilian life. With the last troops returning from Europe during the summer of 1919, the camp was ordered to be abandoned and sold.I appreciate being paid within three days, please.I'm happy to combine shipping.International buyers please contact me for a shipping quote.International buyers are responsible for paying their countries custom fees.I practice leaving positive feedback.I guarantee customer satisfaction.
