Description: From a collection of letters from the field of early 20th century writers, publishers, academics, historians and more. Checkout other listings! EXTREMELY RARE Complimentary Admission pass 1938 "to the Exhibition Buildings of the Williamsburg Restoration". Card no. 2023 and signed in ink by B.W. Norton. Good condition with normal age. This exhibition was a major unveiling of the work done by Colonial Williamsburg Organization, funded largely by Rockefeller, in advance of extended work that would continue for many years. The card's rarity is not only in its scarcity as an object but also in that the recipient is reference by name on the card. This is personal invitation from the organization to a patron. I can find no other examples as a comparison. Bela Winslow Norton (1896-1978) was born in Bucksport, Maine. He move to New York City, New York around 1952 and lived in Williamsburg, Virginia, for about 5 years and later Tarrytown, New York, At Colonial Williamsburg, Norton held the position of Director of Public Relations and Executive Vice President. He died in 1978, in Topsham, Maine, at the age of 81. Ancestors.com Please review all the photos and description and feel free to ask lots of questions.
