1949 PDS Jefferson Nickels - P,D,S - Choose by Mint Mark and Grade - 1949 S Jeff

Description: This listing is for one 1949 Jefferson Nickel, as pictured, choose by mint mark and grade! Photos are linked to the options so that you can see what you're looking for! First struck in 1913, the Buffalo nickel had long been difficult to coin, and after it completed the 25-year term during which it could only be replaced by Congress, the Mint moved quickly to replace it with a new design. The Mint conducted a design competition, in early 1938, requiring that Jefferson be depicted on the obverse and Jefferson's house Monticello on the reverse. The name Monticello derives from Italian meaning "little mountain". The Jefferson collections feature a variety of dates, conditions, and styles. To see more about the Jefferson Nickel, I would recommend visiting usmint.gov. They have a huge amount of official information. Most people think that the Jefferson Nickel is commonplace (and it is) but there are rarer dates and collectible types. What Happened in 1949 * U.S. Air Force's Lucky Lady completes first non-stop around-the-world flight * Electron microscopy developed * Cable television debuts. Americans buy 100,000 television sets a week * "Silly Putty" introduced Thanks for stopping by and please message with any questions! 1949 PDS Jefferson Nickels - P,D,S - Choose by Mint Mark and Grade - 1949 S Jefferson Nickel 1949 D Jefferson Nickel 1949 P
