1959 Original Ponytail Barbie Doll, #850 Blonde, issued 1960/1961, #4 Doll

Description: This vintage 1959 Ponytail Barbie is a #4 doll issued in the early 60's. She is in very good condition with only minor smudging to the legs where the doll was primarily held. Strawberry blond with curly poodle bangs, soft floss hair and a solid, tan vinyl body, bendable hands, excellent face paint, blue eyes & red lips. No green marks. Red nail polish on hands & toes still fully intact. She has a flocked head underneath the hair (not bald as attributed to the #5 doll). The 1959 box is well worn structurally but readable. The black wire stand is missing the base. The word "Japan" is partially worn off on Barbie's foot with only the letters "PAN" still visible. Included are the 3 outfits shown & part of a Sweet Dreams nighty set, missing bloomers. One black mule shoe is missing, remaining shoe is marked Japan in full. (missing shoe may turn up but not guaranteed). Clothing is vintage but still retains Barbie labels. One pink satin jacket does show some signs of age & discoloration in contrast to it's matching dress. Please ask any questions as I am not a Barbie Doll expert but did my best in researching the distinquishing characteristics. This doll has the "R" registered designation on her right buttock and on the box. Reads "Barbie, ®, PATS PEND, (c) MCMLVIII by Mattel, Inc. According to information obtained, some #3 & #4 dolls did have the "R" instead of "TM" during the transition to the new vinyl body in 1961.
