Description: For auction is a menu from the Greek Line ship "T.S.S. Olympia". It is dated Sunday, October 6, 1968. This is a LARGE menu, too large in fact to scan the entire page, so you see only part of the cover, and the content pages are overlapping scans. The cover is a rendering of two ancient Greek figures, a flute player and dancer; the cover bears the name "Greek Line". The lunch menu is on the left inside page, the dinner menu on the right inside page, and chef's suggestions are in the center. 1968 Greek Line - Olympia - ship steamship ocean liner Click images to enlarge Description For auction is a menu from the Greek Line ship "T.S.S. Olympia". It is dated Sunday, October 6, 1968. The Greek Line formally known as the General Steam Navigation Company of Greece, was a passenger ship line that operated from 1939 until 1975. The Greek Line was owned by the Ormos Shipping Company. The line operated transatlantic and short to long distance voyages. The company later began operating leisure cruises as the jet age replaced passenger ships as the means of transportation across the Atlantic Ocean. Except for one ship, all of the other ships that the Greek Line operated were second-hand purchases. Their only ship built was the Olympia. After being renamed and sold several times, the Olympia was sold for scrap in 2009. This menu is for both lunch and dinner for a cruise to Bermuda. The "chef de cuisine" was Vassilios Psyllas. A large number of selections were offered for both meals. Lunch entrees included sea bass, gefilte fish, corned beef, chicken, and chili meat Mexicain; a cold buffet had pot roast, turkey, liverwurst, and boiled calf brains. A full line of soups, salads, vegetables, breads, and other accompanyments was offered. The dinner entree selections were sauteed pork chops, stuffed leg of lamb, sirloin steak, poached flounder, stuffed shrimp and risotto. Again, there were numerous choices of soups, salads, vegetables, breads and desserts. Greek foods were also offered, as well as a wine menu. This menu measures appx 12 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches closed and opens to appx 17 x 12 1/2 inches. It is printed on a medium weight cardstock. Despite being some 50+ years old, it is in excellent condition. It has no writing, no rips or tears; there is some very minor soiling on the back cover, and there are several very small black smears on the top of the front cover that appear to me to be residual from when the menu was printed. A very nice and hard-to-find collectible for cruise ship fans. Pictures sell! Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.300+ Listing Templates! Auctiva gets you noticed!
