Also, like the other eventsmentioned the races drew hoards of cycliststo participate, spectate and many just tobe part of the happenings.Unfortunately several years back, thetown scene turned into a disaster andLaconia, for all practical purposes was nomore. Then, a couple of years ago thingsbegan to pick up and for the last twomeetings Laconia has drawn more of agathering than ever before.Yes, Laconia is back and bet ter yet, thebuldging crowds seem to be more thought-ful of the local situation than before andthe locals more tolerant.As in '80 we began our run to Laconia atthe Cycle Fab shop in Brockton, Mass.Each year Dave Perewitz gathers a swarmof followers for the run to Laconia. Notmuch more than a four hour ride the runmakes for an easy and comfortable gettogether that winds over the freeways thatjoin Mass, and New Hampshire. Actuallywhat should be a four hour ride turns into a6-7hour party with liquor stops at everyother off ramp. Once into Laconia it’s offto Weirs Beach and a putt up and down themain drag. This is where it all takes placefor the people that come to party and if youwant to see what’s happening with justabout every aspect of cycling, this is thespot. From trailer totting dressers to turbo-charged Bonneville trikes you’ll see it allIt’s really a show and it goes on until theearly hours when the police make it veryaparent that you’d be better off back atyour camp or motel.
