Description: 1999 Spawn #87 *RARE* NEWSSTAND VARIANT 1st Appearance of Mammon. Only 1 graded in 9.2 in CGC census with a total of 3 graded across the board compared to 52 graded in direct edition. Actual item in pictures for sale. Spawn newsstand editions were literally printed on newspaper grade thin paper. The paper used on the covers were thinner compared to the direct editions making them so much easier to damage. Newsstand variants were not sold to collectors inside comic book retail stores. They were found at actual newsstands, often displayed in spinner racks inside liquor stores, grocery stores etc and were typically printed on lower quality paper and were never bagged and boarded and often abused. Very few newsstand variants survived making them extremely SCARCE in high grade and many unsold newsstand copies were either returned to the publisher or destroyed.
