Description: 2 Statue of Liberty Antique Patriotic Postcards.1905-06. UND Backs. 1 w GLITTER This is a very nice group of PATRIOTIC antique postcards from the very early 1900s. They were published for GREETINGS and could have been used for Fourth Of July Celebrations. The postcards show different scenes of the STATUE OF LIBERTY. The postcard that is horizontal is a NOVELTY postcard and has GLITTER attached at the water level and at various sections of the Statue. Novelty postcards are unique and possibly rare, because not many would have been made this way. The postcards are flat printed, and they have UNDIVIDED backs. Postcards with UNDIVIDED BACKS were used from 1901-1907. An undivided back is a good indicator of the age of the postcard and its historical significance. During this time period, ONLY THE ADDRESS could be put on the back, and any written message had to be done on the front of the postcard. These type of postcards are collector items because of their age, and because of the limited number of such postcards in existence today. Also, collectors like to own postcards that were published in the beginning years of the postcard hobby. The postcards reflect nice patriotic messages. These are collector items because of their age, their colorful design, and their overall appeal to those collecting Patriotic antique postcards. "The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World" was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was designated as a National Monument in 1924. Employees of the National Park Service have been caring for the colossal copper statue since 1933. The statue is a figure of Libertas, the Roman Goddess of Liberty. She holds a torch above her head with her right hand, and in her left hand carries a tabula ansata inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776 in Roman numerals), the date of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. A broken chain and shackle lie at her feet as she walks forward, commemorating the national abolition of slavery following the American Civil War. After its dedication, the statue became an icon of freedom and of the United States, seen as a symbol of welcome to immigrants arriving by sea. (Wikipedia) The postcards are POSTED with cancel dates of 1905, 1906. They have UNDIVIDED backs. These postcards were probably "Printed in Germany". These are BETTER POSTCARD and good for a collector. The postcards will keep their value! They are sleeved and in good condition. However, please expect some creases, cuts, stains and edge wear due to their age. The photos show the postcards and the backs. The postcards are shipped in a sturdy envelope.
