Description: Mykhailo Kotsyubynskyi (1864-1913) is a subtle connoisseur of the poetic word and the human soul, a brilliant storyteller. The writer fully revealed these talents in the masterpiece of Ukrainian literature - the story "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors". The story he tells is as old as the world. Its heroes are Ivan and Marichka, who have passionately loved each other since childhood, but they cannot be happy together. Their families do not care about the feelings of young people, because they are at odds with each other and even for the sake of their children, they are unable to quench their worthless passions. However, there is one more, if not the most important, actor in the work - the author managed to transfer to paper both the magical beauty of the Carpathians and the color of the Hutsul Region, with its legends, beliefs, and symbols. The publishing house "Brusturi" (Discursus) presents a new edition of the work. Its peculiarity is the preservation of the author's vocabulary, reflected in contemporary editions, which in later editions underwent editorial corrections. According to the same contemporary edition of 1913, the spelling of the name with the letter "y" in the word "shadows" is given. Thus, we want to reproduce the author's intention to show the Hutsul region as much as possible not only through the plot and descriptions of life and customs, but also through the language.
