Description: Three (3) stereoview photographs of scenes in Edinburgh, Scotland, by G.W. Wilson & Co. of Arberdeen, circa 1860s, all with blind stamp mark for Lennie, 46 Princes St., Edinburgh. The top view, entitled Edinburgh—from the Calton Hill, No. 107, looks down on the buildings of a city, with the old Calton Gaol in the foreground. The middle view, entitled Edinburgh—from the Castle, No. 865, looks down the side of a hill towards the buildings of a city. The bottom view, entitled Edinburgh Castle—from the Grassmarket, No. 616, looks up at a medieval castle with a cluster of old looking commercial buildings lining a street in the foreground. Signs on these buildings read The Black Bull Inn, Carriers Warehouse, and Tobacco & Snuff Manufactory. These cards were likely sold at the store of Eliza Lennie, who sold optical goods including cameras and stereoscopes. The three stereoviews are in good to very good condition with only light wear and soiling. Note the light rubbing at the corners of the mounts. The photographs exhibit very good tonal range and show very good detail. A nice set of early Edinburgh images!
