Description: 8 Vintage GEORGES BRIARD 22k Gold HARLEQUIN Highball Cocktail GLASSES Offering a beautiful set of eight 22 karat Georges Briard MCM Glasses in a rare Harlequin pattern. They are from my Mothers estate and in unused condition (packed away safely in a storage box unused for 60+ years) with very minor storage wear. Signature as shown. The brilliant Red, Gold and Green mid century modern striped color way is perfect for entertaining this upcoming holiday season. Each cocktail glass measures 5.5" tall. Each glass weighs 9.2 ounces. Georges Briard was born in Russia in 1917 and moved to the United States at the age of 20 where he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago earning his MFA. In the beginning, Briard would purchase blank glassware from companies like Libbey and Anchor Hocking and embellish them with his designs. Being a designer, not a manufacturer of glass, he later realized he could license his name to companies who would produce his designs on glassware. His "designed and signed" wares were stocked at department stores like Neiman Marcus and Bonwit Teller.
