A SERVICED & Tested MINOLTA XL 400 Super 8 Movie Camera Cine RARE Intervalometer

Description: Long live the analog resurgence! There is nothing like shooting on film… Up for sale... one SERVICED (CLA - cleaned, lubricated, adjusted) and extremely capable Minolta XL-400 Super 8 movie/cine camera (Made in Japan). The camera is in amazing condition and FULLY film-tested. That is to say, this movie camera is in PERFECT working order - all features are functional (shutter, intervalometer, single frame, auto exposure)! I know these cameras well - each I sell has been disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated. It runs smoothly/quietly. It is also in superb physical/aesthetic condition! Every aspect of movie camera is good to go. List of Features: - FAST f 1.2 multicoated lens featuring an 8.5 - 34 mm zoom (4x equivalent) - XL (eXisting Light) Shutter means increased exposure/light reaching film per frame - Automatic Exposure AND Manual Exposure - INTERVALOMETER mode (exposes one frame at a time at customizable intervals - great for time-lapse, etc) - Shoots at Super-8 standard 18 fps (frames per second) and Single-Frame (for stop-motion work, special effects) - + (BLC - backlight compensation) - mode to open aperture a stop when your subject is backlit - Automatic zoom (option - you may also use manual zoom) - activates while shutter/camera is running, as designed. - Battery check button - Film Counter (resets every time film cartridge is removed, as designed) - ONLY requires 2 standard alkaline AA batteries to run! (no separate batteries for zoom or for light meter) LISTING/SALE INCLUDES: 1. Minolta XL-400 Super-8 movie camera (made in Japan, Serial # ...109) 2. Original optional/detachable handle 3. Original Minolta Lens cap (NOTE: You can easily find the XL-400 Instruction manual online for free on various sites in PDF format) A little more about the camera... The lens system is clear (no visible mold, fungus, or scratches - very nice multicoated glass for high contrast imaging) and viewfinder is bright and clean, free of any major dust or debris. The camera body is in good condition - less than normal wear-and-tear for a camera that is 4+ decades off the shelf, and looks very nice. Zoom and focus rings move smoothly. For the uninitiated, it's got a FAST f1.2 zoom lens 8.5-34mm (4x zoom), XL shutter (eXisting Light - 220 degree shutter opening allows more light to reach film per frame - better for low light conditions, and also great for normal lighting). This is one of the best super 8 cameras for existing light (potential low-light conditions, such as you might find at holiday parties, visiting with friends in the city, sunsets, foliage in the mountains, indoor parties, candlelight, filming a band playing indoors, etc.) Obviously it works well with bright light, too (camera stops down to f32), but most movie cameras don't handle existing (low) light as well as these. It also features Auto/Manual exposure options, auto/manual zoom (plus MACRO focus option - focuses right up to the lens), AND... an intervalometer (exposes one frame at a time and you can change the interval between frames - perfect for time lapse photography!). I'll talk more about that in a moment. This camera not only films at the standard super-8 rate (18 fps), but also does single-frame photography. That, along with MACRO focusing capability, is excellent for stop motion work. I would contend that the XL 400 is a superior camera to both the Canon 310 XL and Canon 514XL... Why? This camera has both auto and manual exposure - neither of the Canons have the manual option. This lens is faster than the f 1.4 on the 514, and the zoom is better than that on the 310. Finally - and this is huge - the XL-400 has an INTERVALOMETER! Just a final note on ease of use - the camera only needs 2 AA alkaline batteries to operate! No need for a separate button cell battery to operate metering system. Just have 2 of the most abundantly produced batteries ever... the mighty AA! And battery contacts are clean - no corrosion! Yeah, no real comparison, actually... but I do compare for a reason. Those Canons (working, tested ones, anyway) go for $300-400+ all day on eBay ($899, before tax, if you buy one through Pro8mm!!! BTW, excellent company for film, processing, and transfers... but you are better off putting the money you save with this camera into film/processing!). My point? You will be getting an excellent value (build quality is just as good as Canon or Nikon, and with many more features than those at this price point) when it comes to quality, ease-of-use, and features if you choose to invest in this Minolta movie camera - it offers more features for a lot less $$$. These are great movie cameras, and why I've purchased quite a few of these over the years when I have the opportunity. They've been very useful to me in various projects - they're fantastic for on-the-go shooting as well as in more controlled situations. The intervalometer feature is awesome - everybody who has used my XL 400 cameras has loved how easily they are to set up. Pop it on a tripod, switch exposure to Auto, frame your shot, choose the intervalometer variance (that is the time between frames, which ranges from one frame every 1/2 second to one frame every 60 seconds) and it's done. Great for recording things like chess, sports, setting up camp, recording a climb, family gatherings/dinners, etc. I'm posting this with a Buy it Now option for $279! I'll have it shipped the next day... Perfect if you are in a hurry to use the camera on vacation, an upcoming project, production (film school/class assignment), wedding, for family footage, or purchase as a gift for an aspiring filmmaker. It's a VERY good price for a fully tested and cleaned/serviced XL-400. S&H will be $17.99 to the contiguous US. If you live in Alaska, Hawaii, please contact me prior to bidding for a more accurate shipping quote. Or, if buying from Canada or other countries that I ship to, please refer to eBay's Global Shipping program. The camera will be well-packed and shipped (and insured) via UPS. I have been on eBay since 2000 and have 100% feedback rating, so bid with confidence! Please see all my seller feedback - my customers are very satisfied with the camera and purchasing experience. I'm in the U.S. (west of Chicago). I was a film student at Columbia a couple of decades ago and, as I stated earlier, film remains a hobby of mine. Am I THE expert about super-8 and/or 16mm? Perhaps not the absolute authority, but I have used quite a few Super-8 and 16mm cameras, and have an above average working knowledge. If you have any questions, please ask. I will respond ASAP. I'm happy to help. That said, there is no warranty, express or implied. What I do guarantee is that camera will arrive in condition as described in auction. Beyond that, the camera may function for 5 months, 4 years or a couple more decades (I would think the latter, as long as it is well cared for). I would never sell a camera that I would not want to receive myself! This beautiful XL-400 has been serviced (it's all in excellent working order). Just add batteries and film, and you're ready to roll! Thank you for your interest. ps In case you haven't picked up on it, I really, really enjoy shooting on film! Super-8, 16mm, and 35mm still photography... It's a hobby and passion. I shoot family, travel, and sports, as well as dabble in small productions and have contributed to a few weddings. Part of the love of filmmaking (with FILM) is not just the process, but the equipment. Many of these cameras are engineering art - and it's a much more tactile experience than digital. And, of course, you create an aesthetically unique product by shooting on film. I have used, at one point or another, all the equipment that I have for sale. It is a way to help support my hobby and experience all kinds of vintage cameras. So... purchase with confidence. Know that whether you are buying for yourself, or for someone else, you will get a camera that is just as described, working, and ready to roll film! And if you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask! I cater to filmmakers of all kinds, so if you have a specific question about this camera, a request for a different type of camera or feature set, I'm more than happy to respond with options and answers.
