The front cover has a head of a hippopotamus with its mouth open.Condition: It has mild corner bumps, fading, staining, and edge wear on the covers and spine. The pages are foxed. The book had illustrations by the author through out. It has twelve plate illustrations including the frontispiece, which is has a tissue protection page. The illustration plate between pages 54-55 is separated the other plate are all secured. The book had there is page cracking between pages 92-93 and 108-109, but the pages are still very much intact. The top, fore, and bottom edges of the book are scraped, dusted, and stained. On the first endpaper had a private library stamp Arthur E. Nield. The second endpaper was inscribed, "Nalli (nickname) Lelsey (Mother's maiden name) Nield from Grandmother, Christmas 1912". (Please review all photos carefully for condition!)
