Description: Up for your consideration this absolutely gorgeous antique (circa 1830) Robert May of Charles Street Works, Hanley Staffordshire Covered Vegetable Dish, The Bird Fountain pattern. It's measures approximately 13" X 9", lid 9" X 7", 6" high with lid and 3" without. Dish condition very good for its age, please see last 4 pictures for all cosmetic issues. No backstamp. Transfer printed with "The Bird Fountain" pattern attributed to Robert May. Pieces in this pattern have been found impressed MAY for Robert May of Charles Street Works, Hanley Staffordshire. Manufacturer was active from 1829 to 1830, when his business was bought by Ridgway. The pattern is sometimes called Bird Fountain, but Fountain was the factory name, rural scene with castle and river, in the foreground a distinctive fountain and aristocratic family. A superb highly decorative dish, will make a perfect addition to any collection especially blue & white lovers. I found no significant condition issues with this dish, but signs of previous use and ownership should be expected consistent with its vintage timeline and should be taken into consideration with age and ownership.
