Description: Antique Joseph Mansell "Arachnanthe Clarkei" Orchid Lithograph Tab 65. This is was taken from the world famous and extremely rare Reichenbachia, Orchids illustrated and described book by Henry Frederick Conrad. The book was named in honour of Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach (1824-1889), ornithologist, botanist and celebrated orchidologist This orchid was originally painted by Henry G Moon, with the chromolithograph being produced in London. This is one of 192 hand-finished chromolithographic plates drawn on stone by Joseph Mansell (124), Gustav Leutzsch (62), J.L. Macfarlane (3) and Gustav Leutzsch's successors (3), after Henry G. Moon (178), Walter Hood Fitch (2), A.H. Loch (4), Georg Hansen (1), Chas. Storer (1), T. Walton (1), J.L. Macfarlane (3) and 2 unsigned, printed by Joseph Mansell (124), Gustav Leutzsch (62), M. & N. Hanhart (3) and Gustav Leutzsch's successor (3) that were in the original book. The work is in good shape for its age with great color and appears to have been folder kept and never displayed. There was tape at the upper corners that has been removed and left lighter marks. Lower left corner has been slightly torn off. Overall a very rare and beautiful chromolithographic work that would benefit by being framed. Measures around 15 1/2 by 21 inches Please see the photos for more details. I will ship art laying flat with tracking and insurance.
