ANTIQUE LITHOGRAPH FRAMED PRINT WELL GUARDED N.B. RONEY ST. BERNARD DOG

Description: It's difficult to find any details about how and when the original of this painting came to be ... the same is true for the artist. "Well Guarded" was painted sometime in the mid 19th century by N.B. Roney. It depicts a young girl who is asleep after a day playing at the beach, guarded by her faithful Saint Bernard. Based on the framing, my best estimate of the date of this print is sometime in the 1930s. including the frame, this print measures about 12" X 16 1/2". Excellent antique condition. As to the print itself, no tears, bug damage, moisture damage, or foxing. A slight bit of rippling at the top, though you have to turn it at an angle to see it. Decades of sun exposure has mellowed the colors, but this is not a washed out print. It retains many vibrant shades of green, brown, white and yellow and remains a moving work of art. Frame has one bumped corner, but if you are artistically inclined, it can easily be touched up. Cardboard backing has mottled fading, but again, no tears, bug damage, moisture damage, etc. If you are a fan of Art Nouveau era art, or you're just looking for a unique St. Bernard-dogs-in-art-history piece, this is for you.
