Description: Beautiful Antique display plate made in Royal Vienna Style and marked with Beehive mark - Austria. The beehive mark has been used and copied by many factories. But it is possible that this plate was decorated by Radler & Pilz or Josef Vater. Both studios operated in Vienna, Austria, approximately same time frame. The plate depicts Neoclassical scene from Greek Mythology. There is an inscription on the reverse side reading “minos nerweigert seinem beisland dem koing athaus “, which means Minos refuses to give his support to the King Athens “. The plate features round and slightly deep shape, heavily gilded details and scrolls. Handpainted framed image in the center. Measures: 9” wide and 1.25” deep. Condition: THE PLATE HAS AN OLD STAPLE REPAIR. SOLD IN “AS IS” CONDITION. There are production related imperfections. Some wear to gilt and some patina on the gilded areas. Wear on the underside. Wear to Handpainted details in a few areas. Please see pictures for additional info. Pictures are part of the description. Typical use related marks and scratches. It’s a wonderful piece despite the repair. It looks beautiful and is decorated with a high degree of craftsmanship.
