Description: A complete set of antique framed Latin texts used by the priest during Mass. It is unusual to find the full trio of old altar cards, they are more commonly acquired incomplete and sold individually. These were printed by the famous French religious printing house of Turgis et Fils, active during the 1800s, and came from a convent in Mallorca, Spain. The larger one carries a colour image of the Virgin Mary with the body of Christ in her arms, the others have borders in navy blue and matt gold. There are numerous smaller icons associated with Holy Communion such as the chalice and grapes. This is a rare collector's item. Turgis Jeune Lithographic Printmakers was established by Louis Turgis (b 1818) in Paris, and in the second half of the 19th century a second branch was set up at 39, Barclay Street, New York. In 1891 the company became Turgis et Fils, when Louis brought his sons in to the business. These three items are in the original glazed and gilded frames. The wooden backs have not been opened. The prints show signs of use - of note there is some water damage. The ornate frames show some loss of gesso and gilding, reflective of approx 125 years of age and use. Please do zoom in and have a close look at all the images as they form an important part of the description. Please note the corpus of Christ in the photos is NOT included in the sale, it will be available at a later date. The large one measures approx 30 x 20 cms (12 x 8 inches), and the smaller ones approx 14 x 18 cms (5.5 x 7 inches). Total weight is 880 grams. Will be shipped by Royal Mail Tracked 48 or International Tracked.
