Description: The yellow ware clay of this spittoon is beautiful. It is American made and most likely from Ohio. Yellow ware must be often thought of as a Native American type of pottery because ebay tried very hard to make me add it to my description. But, I assure you that this piece is not. Whether it matters, or not, yellow ware like this has been made since the 1700s in England. Many potters by trade came to America with this skill and set up shop here. With most of these wares coming out of Ohio. This style began to go out of favor though as the 19th century ended. It does have some dings and has been priced accordingly. Please note: The color of the products displayed on photos may differ slightly from the actual products due to factors such as photography lighting, computer resolution, or lighting within you own home, etc. All hand painted and hand crafted items may be expected to have naturally occurring variations, even in new items. Imperfections add to the history and character of each piece.
