Description: Turn your yard into a birding paradise; this mix is drought, heat, and cold tolerant, restores native vegetation and is guaranteed to bring a wider variety of birds to your yard. Full of native grasses, cool and warm for food and nesting material all year long, forbs and wildflowers that attract insects that birds love to eat, as well as pollinators like hummingbirds, serviceberry and elderberry for summertime fruits, and sagebrush for dense, secure cover from predators. This is best used against a fence or wall but can also cover a section of your yard for a more wild look. An excellent choice for overall increasing biodiversity and creating mini ecosystems within yards or on businesses' property that are already a wildlife/native yard. After establishment, this mix can be left alone with little or no water (recommended) or trimmed and watered as you like. Best planted outside March to May but can also be started indoors in flats then transplanted once the plants are a few inches tall. Make sure to care for the more vulnerable/ your favorite seedlings with cages or netting because these plants are loved by all sorts of wildlife. Each packet will cover up to 2,500square feet. Mostly perennials, there are a couple of reseeding annuals that are great for hummingbirds and other pollinators. 4 packets will fully cover 1 acre of land. Little Bluestem is warm season grass for some good variety and green grasses until it snows, and is excellent for roosting habitat. The grasses tolerate traffic, especially Sandberg Bluegrass - but the wildflowers will not tolerate traffic. Palmer's Penstemon, Colorado Columbine and Yarrow should definitely bring hummingbirds in. The Mahogany will provide nesting locations for birds of prey, and the Basin Big sagebrush will provide dense cover for all sorts of birds. This mix will attract and help grow and start entire ecosystems. Insects, songbirds, birds of prey, upland birds and deer will love the native buffet. Save water, benefit insects and wildlife, farm carbon, control erosion and heal your soil. There are hundreds of species that depend on and are associated with the sage-steppe, just a few that should show up depending on your location are are: sage grouse, sharp tailed grouse, local upland birds like pheasant or chukar, mountain plover, nighthawks, sage thrashers, loggerhead shrike, grasshopper sparrow, western meadowlark, black throated sparrow, sage sparrows and Brewer's sparrow, warblers, grosbeaks, flycatchers, burrowing and other owls, American kestrels, ferruginous and red tail hawks for nesting and an extremely wide variety of other birds of prey, your local hummingbird varieties, as well as pygmy rabbits, mule deer, pronghorn antelope and wild sheep. There are not many birds that can resist this buffet and dense cover and you should definitely get some birds you don't normally see around the house. These plants will do extremely well throughout the intermountain west, particularly above 4,000ft with full sun. Hardy zones 4-8. Included seed: Higher percentage will yield higher density of that particular plant.
