BILL BLASS Vintage 1980s Black Velvet Jacket & Skirt Suit with Fur Collar SZ 6-8

Description: With its historical design references, this luxurious black velvet 2-piece ensemble from legendary American designer, Bill Blass, could just as easily have been made in the 1920s instead of the 1980s. The blouson jacket has a dropped waist with closure at the very bottom, foldover lapels, and shoulder pads. It also has set-in, shirt style sleeves with buttoned cuffs. The fur collar is sable, which was used a lot by Blass in the 1980s for trimming luxury jackets and coats. For an alternate look to the suit, the fur collar can be removed to expose a velvet collar underneath. It's very difficult to discern in the photos, but the velvet has an unusual rippled texture. The fiber content is not labeled, but it feels like silk, or possibly a silk and rayon blend. The entire jacket, including the sleeves, is lined in what looks and feels like black silk taffeta. The midi-length pencil skirt has no waistband, a hidden side zipper, and a back walking vent. The size is labeled size 6, and it seems to run true to size, or even a bit large for a vintage set, so we are recommending it for sizes 6-8. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size and compare with similar garments that fit you.*Notes: The size of the jacket's "waistband" can be adjusted by moving the buttons a little bit either way. And for a modern look, the skirt could be shortened. We shot this suit before we bought a mannequin with a longer neck, so the effect of the fur collar is a little bit lost. JACKET MEASUREMENTS - Shoulders width is 16.5" to outer edges of shoulder pads. - Chest is 42" - Dropped waist is 38" (this is at the bottom of the jacket where it buttons right above the hip measurement) - Sleeve length is 25" - Length is 29" down center back.
