Description: Really neat heavy brass bowl. Has the turned up curve for the neck. Has 4 notches around the outer rim as shown. Has some patina to it. Measures 10 1/4" by 7 1/2" by 2 1/8". Weighs 1 lb 9 ozs. Bleeding bowls were usedto catch blood released during bloodletting, a medical practice that was popular in both ancient and modern societies until the 1850s.The bowls were often used by barbers and surgeons, and could also serve a dual purpose as shaving bowls.
