Description: Fourteen 3751 class 4-8-4 locomotives were acquired byATSF from the Baldwin locomotive company between 1927 and 1929. They wereupgrades to the 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotives previously used for passengerservice, and ATSF called them Heavy Mountain, New Mountain, or Mountain 4-WheelTrailer. It does not appear that ATSF ever called them Northern locomotives, although other railroads used that nomenclature. These locomotives remained inactive service until the late 1950s, when they were replaced by diesellocomotives. The BLI HO scale model (#3756) features die-cast chassisand boiler, with detailed plastic parts applied. The model has a Paragon 3 decoderinstalled for DCC control and sound, but the model also will run on aDC-controlled layout. The box includes detailed operator instructions. As noted above, while BLI refers to the model as Northern, this nomenclature was never used by the ATSF. Similar locomotives used by otherrailroads were commonly referred to as Northern. This model has never been operated. It was removed fromthe box for photography.
