Description: c 1825 William Adams and Son 23 cm hand painted display plate with Italianate country scene pattern #7027. Adams produced their wares in Burslem, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire until 1863. A superb example of the very best English porcelain production techniques.The striking magenta border sets off perfectly the intricate hand painted detail in the central well, with fantastic scrolls and swags high lights in gold, all set on a crisp white background. The lightly fluted shape is very tactile. In perfect original double antique condition, there are no chips, cracks, repairs, restoration or crazing that I can identify. No utensil marks which indicates that this plate has been on display, never used. Rarely do I find such impeccable condition in porcelain from this era. The reverse bears the William Adams & Sons back stamp which was used from 1819-1864; and a hand painted pattern number. Please note that tiny inclusions from the kiln process; minor enamel and gilding smudges or flecks; and occasional glaze faults are characteristic of the entirely manual techniques employed 200 years ago, and should be expected.
