Description: Chattanooga Tennessee birds-eye view Army of Cumberland 1863 Civil War newspaper Harper's Weekly: A Journal of Civilization. (Old Periodicals, 19th Century Newspapers, Americana, Harper's Weekly, Civil War, Illustrated Newspapers). Issued November 12th, 1863, New York, by Harper & Brothers. An actual piece of American history issued during the Civil War. Filled with commentary and wood engraved images relating to that war and issued contemporary to the events. Original mid-19th century weekly newspaper.  An actual, complete newspaper published at the date listed, not a modern re-issue. During this period, this journal was a major, influential national publication which employed many of the top artists of the era. Paper uniformly age toned as typical, some pages loose. Issue was once bound up in a volume and is now free-standing and complete unto itself as originally issued. Nice looking, clean, covers detached, spine has old stitch holes from previous binding, well preserved example, pages loosened, any age flaws easy to overlook or forgive. Text on reverse of each page as always, images and maps from Harper's like this are often offered separately for display.  Newspaper measures c. 16" H x 11" W. Periodical will be shipped gently rolled in a sturdy 3" wide tube to ensure it arrives safely to you! Multiple issues purchased at the same time will be shipped flat. [B11511]. The front page has two prints: "The Army of the Cumberland--Bridging the Tennessee Under Rebel Fire from Lookout Mountain" and: "Landing of General Banks's Expedition on Brazos Santiago, Texas, On November 2, 1863." Inside has a dramatic full page: "The Army of the Cumberland--Capture of Rebel Rifle-pits in Lookout Valley by the Thirty-Third Massachusetts and Seventy-Third Ohio Volunteers" and a great double page centerfold: "General View of Chattanooga and Union Encampments--Rebel Army Beyond Belt of Timber--From Our Signal Station" Other prints within include: "The Army of the Cumberland--General Hazen's Brigade Descending the Tennessee to Occupy Lookout Valley" "...Hazen's Brigade Landing Below Lookout Mountain on the Morning of October 28" "Major General C.c. Washburne" "Bridal Parure of Mrs. Senator Sprague...Made by Tiffany & Co." "the Army of the Potomac--Capture of Sedgwick's Corps of the Rebel Works on the Rappahannock, Near the Railway Bridge". The back page has a political cartoon which features Abraham Lincoln: "Drawing Things To A Head.
