Description: Offered here is "L'Ingéieux Hidalgo Don Quichotte de la Manche" by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, in a first limited edition thus (#61 of 350 copies) published by Hachette & Cie. in 1909. This is Volume 3 (only) of a 4 volume set, with text in a French. Numerous gorgeously detailed illustrations by Daniel Vierge. For an interesting short biography about Vierge and his illustrations for this edition, see: https://blogs.bl.uk/european/2016/05/one-that-got-away.html Condition of this 415 pp. hardcover book is Good: the front hinge is cracked, but the binding is holding together; the leather paste-down title on the buckram spine is almost worn off. There is a beautiful vintage heraldic bookplate (Alfred de Crozals) on an early blank page, and also another former owner's signature on the limited edition page (that of Ed Vebell, who was a well-known professional illustrator and artist and was a Westport, CT resident). Laid in is the front and spine panel portion of a dust jacket. There is also a three-sided paper-covered cardboard slip-case (same graphics as the dust jacket), but the slipcase is for volume 4; the slip-case shows overall wear and, while the front hinge is still strong, the back slip-case cover has separated.
