Description: 2010 romantic drama The Song of Lunch starring Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Andi Soric and directed by Niall MacCormick; based on the poem by Christopher Reid. From the PBS Masterpiece Contemporary series the film follows the saga of a nameless book editor (Rickman), meeting his ex-girlfriend (Thompson) a decade after their initial break-up. They join one another for a nostalgic lunch at a chic SoHo restaurant that figured prominently in their relationship. She has become the society wife of a French writer, and now resides in Paris; he has fallen into a mundane, unsatisfying publishing job, and pines for their lost love affair. Comment: This is a dramatised narrative poem. The story is told through his perspective, much of it as voice-over. The switch between voice-over and dialogue works well, creating tension and drama in what is an otherwise undramatic setting. Both Rickman and Thompson deliver their blank verse lines (with the occasional rhyme) very naturally. An interesting watch, that displays the considerable talents of both actors. Per the label, the film has running time of 50 minutes. The film has English audio, English SDH subtitles, and is presented in 16:9 enhanced format. This movie-on-demand MOD archive title on recorded media is new and factory sealed. The DVD disc is Region 1, NTSC format, specifically designed to play on DVD players in North America.
