Description: Franklin Library leather edition of Marianne Moore's "Collected Poems," a Limited edition, Illustrated by Robert Andrew Parker, introduction by T.S. Eliot, one of the 100 GREATEST MASTERPIECES OF AMERICAN LITERATURE series, published in 1981. Bound in navy blue leather, the book has matching French moire silk end leaves, hubbed spine, acid-free paper, Symth-sewn binding, a satin book marker, gold gilding on three edges---in near FINE condition---except for very minor imperfection to top gilt. Marianne Craig Moore, who lived from 1887--1972, was born in St. Louis, graduated from BRYN MAWR in 1909 and mainly lived with her mother in New York City where she edited THE DIAL. [Poetry Magazine.] Her poems are marked by a disciplined, unconventional use of metrics. She was an avid baseball fan and was often asked to "throw out the first pitch" of the season. She was also known for her straw hats she wore to games that she attended with her mother. Miss Moore's poetry, or most of it, might be classified as 'descriptive' rather than 'lyrical' or 'dramatic.' She has a gift for detailed observation, and for finding the exact word whether describing an ivory ball, the full-rigged ship in a bottle or the skeleton of the crucifix-fish. This volume includes selections from "Selected Poems, 1935," "What Are Years? 1941," "Nevertheless, 1944," "Hitherto Uncollected," and "Notes." 206 pages, included an Index of first lines.
