Description: Fabulous unique MCM Mid Century Modern watercolor and ink painting on canvas with impasto techniques. So much texture, from the festive balloons to the elaborate Victorian street lights that actually illuminate! "Moulin Rouge" style street signs that also light up. Shops, cafes, horse and carriage, French architecture, and a vibrant Paris street scene are brought to life with beautiful pinks and reds and superbline illustrations that call to mind historical commercial magazine ads from the 1950s and 1960s. The clock takes a "D" type battery to operate. The painting plugs into a standard American wall outlet to illuminate the various incorporated lights. The piece is all original, so there is some slight fading and minor repairs seem to have been made on one corner of the frame. See photos for details. The piece is sturdy and intact. Even with extensive research, I cannot identify the artist. The piece is very much like the popular "Carlo of Hollywood" oversized wall paintings that were produced in the middle of the 20th Century. The piece is clearly signed "Garland," and there is some speculation this could be George Garland, a mid century NY artist and illustrator who contributed to the Saturday Evening Post. This inspiring, huge piece needs to be appreciated by the right buyer who can provide the means to lovingly care for this funky piece of mid 20th century history. 76 inches wide by 35 inches high.
