Description: George Raymond Richard Martin is a popular American science fiction writer, screenwriter and producer. The author of one of the most thought-out fantasy cycles of recent times, recognized throughout the world - "A Song of Ice and Fire". George Martin was born on September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey to Raymond Collins Martin, a trucker. The mother's name was Margaret Brady Martin. George Martin has 2 sisters, Darlene Martin Lapinski and Janet Martin Pattin. The future writer received his primary education at the Mary Jane Donohue School. From childhood, he was fond of reading and began to write at an early age, and at school he was already selling scary stories to neighborhood children. In high school, he became interested in comics and collected them, and also began writing for amateur fantasy magazines. In 1970, Martin received a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. A year later, he already had a master's degree in journalism. His first professional sale took place in 1970, when Martin was 21. Hero was acquired by Galaxy magazine and published in the 1971 issue. From this year, Martin's work began to be published. In the period 1976-1978 Martin taught at Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1975, George Martin married Gail Barnick, but four years later they filed for divorce, never becoming parents. In 1979, Martin devoted himself entirely to literature. In 1978-79, he was a freelance writer at Clark College. In 1981, his future wife Parris McBridge moved to Martin in Santa Fe. In the mid-eighties, George Martin was offered a job in Hollywood, namely to be a script editor for the series "Twilight Zone" on the CBS channel in 1986. A year later, Martin becomes a consultant and is responsible for the development of the plot, for the series "Beauty and the Beast" for the same channel, and a year later becomes a producer of this project. In 1992-93, as an executive producer, he was engaged in writing the script for the series "Portals", as a result, the series was canceled after the pilot episode was finished, and the footage was later edited into a full-length film. In addition to the main story that everyone has heard of, Martin has 3 other books that he has written that take place in Westeros, but centuries before the events of the main series. In them, he tells a story about two heroes, the knight-errant Duncan and his squire Ego. George Martin is a writer with a world name and his works are popular all over the world and have been translated into more than 70 languages. In January 2007, the HBO company bought the rights to film the cycle "A Song of Ice and Fire". Each book will be adapted into a single season of 10 episodes each (except for the fourth and fifth books, which are combined into one season). The first season of "Game of Thrones" gathered a large audience of fans around the world. The second season, which started in April 2012, set a new record for the TV network NVO in terms of the number of views. Martin currently lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association of America and a member of the Writers Guild of America. In early 2011, after 30 years of marriage, George Martin married Parris McBridge.
