NOTES Hugh Howey was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1975. Before publishing his books, Howey worked various jobs as a bookstore clerk, roofer, audio technician, and yacht captain. After seeing some success with the "Silo" series, Howey moved to South Africa in 2015, commissioning a sailing catamaran which he would sail from Cape Town to Australia. "Wool" itself would become a "fix-up" novel containing one short story and several novellas as it was released in 2012. It's success would see two sequel novels, "Shift", itself a "fix-up" novel of three novellas, and "Dust", both released in 2013. The series would be named "Silo" for the location of the same name in which the series takes place. After an initial interest in a film adaptation in 2012 which fell through after the 21st Century Fox, and being passed around several studios as a television series, the first arc of the "Silo" series "Wool" was released in 2023 on AppleTV+. The series would release to some success and highly positive reviews, earning it a second season renewal."Sand" was released in 2014, a fix-up of five novellas. It is not connected to the "Silo" series, but inhabits a similar post-apocalyptic future setting. The novel released to highly positive reviews from fans and critics alike, eventually leading to a second novel "Across the Sand" in 2022.
