Description: Hi all---I have available a custom freelance Virginian & Ohio 40' insulated box car kit, V&O 3877. The car is decorated in dark blue with white lettering with the company name, "The Ridge Runner" slogan, and a markings for food service. It is new in box, never assembled or used. This is the last kit of V&O 3877. It is from a May 2024 100-car custom run. The scheme was designed by Alan McClelland, approved by Brad McClelland, and produced by Three Notch Rail. Background: In 1952, the V&O needed some insulated boxcars with plug doors to serve several processed food distributors. Not able to purchase ten new boxcars at this time, the V&O’s West Carrollton car shop was able to rebuild excess 40’ steel boxcars, built in late 1948, by adding insulation, plug doors and damage-free loaders (DF-2). These cars were completed in May of 1952, numbered in series 3870 – 3879, classified XFL, and marked “Processed Food Products Only.” They continued in service until 1982, when they were scrapped.
