LG Norwegian Wooden Box Blue Rust Rosemaling INITIALED DATED Paint Original 1830

Description: Large Antique Norwegian Wooden Painted Box (missing top sliding lid)***This listing is for the box only, the textile and hardanger piece shown with it will be offered under another listing. I used it to show great color combinations and texture. Norway Folk Art Beautiful Rosemaled Painting on sides Wooden Peg ConstructionINITIALED AND DATED 1830 The two ends seem to have "ON" on one end and "GLD" on the other but that is just a guess as I cannot read the Scandinavian script from 1830! Measures 17 1/2 in long, 7 1/4 in high, 13 1/2 in deep The front has what is possibly "HALATT "and 1830 on the other***There should have been a sliding lid that slid into grooves on the top of the box, one long side still has the grooves however the groove part on the other long side many years ago has been removed, probably because it was damaged.I always thought I would send this off to be restored which would not be difficult as it just requires two pieces of straight cut wood, but I just didn't get around to it....the paint on this piece alone deserves to have it restored. It is beautiful, original, and dates to 1830. Amazing...Blue and Red Painted Bottom Lovely PatinaThe inside of the box had at one time fabric, possibly velveteen) attached to it and glued at the corners and seams, and the remnants of that fabric are still there. It came to me in this condition.
