LILLIAN GISH WAS ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS OF THE "SILENT FILM" STARS---SHE WAS ACTIVE FOR OVER 75 YEARS (1912-1987), BUT SHE ACHIEVED HER FAME DURING THE 1910'S-1920'S. SHE WAS CALLED THE "FIRST LADY OF AMERICAN CINEMA". LILLIAN GISH APPEARED IN MANY OF DIRECTOR D. W. GRIFFITH'S FILMS, INCLUDING "THE BIRTH OF A NATION" IN 1915---ALSO APPEARED IN "TALKIES" SUCH AS "DUEL IN THE SUN" IN 1946. LILLIAN GISH DIED FEBRUARY 27, 1993.
