Description: MIL-SPEC 4-Blade Camp Knife, Est, Vin. 1940: This is an "alright" pocketknife, made uncommon by its military background. The identifier here is the blade tang; the cutler's name is ground-off, leaving only "USA" as identifier. Wartime knives were made or altered to have no supplier name but "USA" to prevent advertising favoritism or brand-collecting. Blade has been heavily sharpened to approx 80% of original height. Scratches and discoloration indicate heavy cutting and probably prying-open wooden crates and chemicals. Blade is straight and polished up surprisingly well. Openers are standard for the time; cap-lifter has been shortened, altering the flat screwdriver. Awl had a boogered tip, so I ground it down to a sharp end. Brass frame is square and solid to the bolsters; brass indicates that the knife was bought as existing stock from the cutlers, then ground to eliminate brand name. Walk and talk is soft on blade and medium on the accessories. Handle scales are either composition or phenolic, no cracks or chips, and shine very well. The knife worked hard but was valued by the owner(s). Value here is the knife's provenance and its usefulness as a survivor. And it's not ugly. Mailing only to USA-48.
