Description: NATIVE SILVER, ACANTHITE and CHRYSOCOLLA - 4 cm - MAGDALENA, MEXICO 28366 NATIVE SILVER, ACANTHITE and CHRYSOCOLLA - 4 cm MAGDALENA, MEXICO This is a good small cabinet specimen of silver from an uncommon location. It comes from a poorly documented find of many years ago and the collection of a field collector. Years ago rockhounds from the US often went into the mountains in northern Mexico on collecting trips. For some time now it is not safe to do this. This specimen comes from one of those old excursions. The specimen features a tiny formation of crystals of native silver and even tinier spiky crystals of black acanthite that require magnification to view them; a micromount. The silver is reminiscent of a Batopilas formation with elongated crystals in a vug on the bottom side. Spheric formations of chrysocolla occur with the silver minerals, and an unidentified blue mineral (looks like aurichalcite) is present, too. The matrix is a stained, brecciated quartz.
