Description: Showcased here is an original framed blueprint from the German TR era depicting the infamous sofa from the Munich Agreement which was held at the Fuhrerbau in Munich on September 30th, 1938. Unlike many other buildings associated with the party, the building where this piece was housed still stands today, barely spared from Allied bombing in 1945. It currently serves as theUniversity of Music and Performing Arts in Munich(German:Hochschule fr Musik und Theater Mnchen). The sketch and drawing was originally drawn by Paul Ludwig Troost in collaboration with his wife, Gerdy, who had an affinity for interior design. The two were AH's personal architects prior to the death of Paul Troost, at which point the position was then assumed by Albert Speer, later the Minister of Armaments. The blueprint depicts the exact sofa that was commissioned by AH for the room which adjoined his main office/headquarters in Munich, and was created using a contact print process on light sensitive cardstock paper, an obsolete process that was customary during the time. The detail of the blueprint is magnificent, and remarks on the drawing itself depict the location, the architect's signature, and a general description as to what room the sofa was to be placed. Condition is excellent only showing small creases and light smudges, likely from inspection during the period. This is a special piece of history in that the exact sofa was front and center during the various meetings that took place between Germany, Italy, France, and Great Britain which came to be known as the Munich Agreement, which eventually led up to the break out of World War II roughly a year later. The leaders of these nations included Benito Mussolini, Neville Chamberlain, douard Daladier, and the German Chancellor (AH), all of whom were present and who sat on this very sofa. Archival photos of the room are available, and show the furniture piece in various conversational settings including the aforementioned Munich Agreement meetings. One such photo is provided here for reference. Note the exact design of the sofa, particularly the side profile view. A stunning piece of World War II history that exemplifies how appeasement can make the aggressor even more aggressive. Displays beautifully in a custom wooden frame with excellent natural wood graining. Plan is freemounted underneath a glass panel, the outer frame dimensions of which are 18x24". Will be packed with care for proper transit.
