Description: Pasquale G Napolitano Signed Drawing Christ Carrying Cross Listed Artist Pasquale G Napolitano Signed Drawing Christ Carrying Cross Listed Artist Click images to enlarge Description Pasquale Giovanni Napolitano, pencil drawing on paper showing Jesus Christ carrying a cross to his crucifixion, signed with P G Napolitano in the lower center and also signed with initials P G N in the lower right, circa 1920s, about 6 1/4 by 7 3/4 inches in a 11 1/2 by 13 1/2 inch matte, in very good condition. The artist was a devout Catholic and often painted pictures of scenes from the bible. According to AskArt.com, Pasquale Giovanni Napolitano (1901-2001) was born in Naples, Italy and immigrated to Los Angeles with his family when he was 11 years old. He studied at the Otis Art Institute under Julia Wendt and F. Tolles Chamberlain. After studies in Germany, he returned to Los Angeles and apprenticed to muralist Herman Sachs while on the Public Works of Art Project. Merle Armitage, then Regional Director of the PWAP wrote a book entitled Napolitano in 1935 that reproduced 15 works by the artist and included a signed print. He taught sculpture at Chouinard in 1937-38. He also exhibited widely in local shows and works of his were acquired by the Los Angeles Museum of Art and the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
