Description: Past Patterns PP#8933Edwardian Era Ladies Guimpe Sewing Patterns This Edwardian Ladies Guimpe sewing pattern was originally published by The New Ideas Pattern Company ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ On the original packaging this garment was described as a “Ladies' Guimpe. In high neck with standing collar or open neck with flat collar, with one-seam sleeves in full-length, dart-fitted to elbow or bishop sleeves or without sleeves. Perforated for yoke facing or chemisette. Back closing.” See Past Patterns 5731 for an example of an overblouse worn with a guimpe. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This Dress pattern was designed to fit the size and shape of an Edwardian woman (circa 1909-mid 1910s) with a 38” bust. For resizing information, see https://pastpatterns.com/resizing-vintage-patterns/ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Materials Required 1 7/8 Yds of 36” wide fabric Guimpes and chemisettes from the Edwardian era were made of a variety of fabrics including net, lace, voile, light weight silk, and batiste. An example from Lippincotts’ Manual, written in 1914, shows a guimpe made of silk net. It has zigzag stays to make the collar stand up. Zigzag stays can be made by bending floral wire, which is covered with thread. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The package includes a copy of the original artwork and descriptions of the garment on the front cover and it has information on the Differences Between Chemisettes and Guimpes along with a pattern layout on the back cover. Inside the booklet are a material requirements chart, brief, written directions and historical notes on The New Idea Pattern Company during the Edwardian age. We also include the Past Pattern Guide to Editing Garments Due to Bust Size. The hand-drawn and computer printed patterns come on 1 sheets, 36”x51”. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Our patterns are printed on 20 lb. white paper and packaged in a reusable plastic. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 8933 Thanks for looking!
