Description: This commemorative 1994 Vietnam War Memorial Silver Dollar Liberty coin is a stunning piece of American and Military history. Crafted with 90% silver and 10% copper this Philadelphia mint coin features a proof strike type. (West Point minted uncirculated coins while only the Philadelphia Mint produced proof coins.) The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was chosen as the subject of this 1994 commemorative silver dollar that was released in honor of the memorial’s 10th anniversary. However, by way of recognizing the physical memorial, the coin also honors the more than 58,000 service people who died as a result of the Vietnam War. The coin was authorized under Public Law 103-186 on December 14, 1993. The obverse was designed by John Mercanti. The reverse is the work of Thomas D. Rogers. Uncirculated issues were struck by the West Point Mint and had a regular issue price of $32. On the other hand, Proofs were produced by the Philadelphia Mint and sold for $35 individually. The coin is not certified/graded but was sold from the U.S. Mint as a relatively rare coin in Proof or Proof-like state. I estimate this as a Mint-like or Proof-like in the 69 or 70 range as a mirror effect DCAM type of coin but this has not been verified. You will need to examine this coin. I can attempt to get better pictures using my microscope but I don't know if this is necessary. I have included information from "coin snap" which supported my impressions. In any event, this is a highly sought-after collectible that will continue to increase in value. The coin is a modern silver/copper clad coin, minted in Philadelphia in 1994. It features the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and on the reverse side there is recognition of the military services with display of three medals: the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. There is a stunning picture of the Wall and inscription of Liberty on the top half of the coin with the mint date of 1994.
