Ty Inc. switched from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pellets to PE (polyethylene) pellets in Beanie Babies around January 1998. This change was prompted by environmental concerns raised by Greenpeace. MY QUACKERS TUSHTAG HAS - A RED STAR NEXT TO TY. MY QUACKERS SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY STAR ON THE TUSHTAG! The red star on the Beanie Baby tush tag was introduced in early fourth generation tags, which appeared between June and September of 19974. Initially, Ty attached a transparent sticker with a small red star to the upper left of the heart on third generation tags.
