Description: This is a scarce sample size SAGWA medicine bottle which may have been from an actual traveling medicine show which featured real live indians!..You are only buying the ONE small sample size bottle on the right.. SAGWA boldly emb on both sunken side panels...no other embossing.......Hand blown in mold....hand tooled square ring collar....aqua...rect...only 5 1/8"tall....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A dug bottle with some light haze. Larger Sagwa bottles were embossed Kickapoo Indian Sagwa, or Healy & Bigelow Indian Sagwa and had a picture of an American Indian in headdress. "Doc" Healy (who wasnt really a doctor), and "Texas Charlie" Bigelow were a couple enterprising men with no medical training whatsoever, who began the Kickapoo Indian Medicine Co. in the early 1880s. They hired actual indians to tour the country in their travelling medicine shows, which according to eye witness accounts, were very entertaining in the days long before radio or television. The Kickapoo shows lasted for hours and during the intermissions, the indians would come out into the audience with baskets full of the INDIAN SAGWA and other bottled medicines for sale by the company (and possibly some of these little SAGWA sample bottles). The show would not resume until every bottle was sold! These travelling shows toured the country back in the 1880s and 1890s. Their "Principal Wigwam", (headquarters), was located in New Haven, Conn. ..
