Rare Antique 1884 Aesthetic Movement American View Historical Transfer Soap Dish

Description: Seller: Alley-Antiques DESCRIPTION: The price is for one antique transferware covered soap dish with inner insert. The pattern is called The World. This was made by Wallis Gimson & Co., Fenton Staffordshire England. Heavy Ironstone type pottery. Each piece is marked and has the English Registry number 7624 which dates this to the year 1884. This is a popular pattern for a few reasons. First it has the beautiful Aesthetic Movement style. Then the pieces have several different city views from around the World as seen in the 1880s (including American views). The base has an American view of Trinity Church, Boston. The lid has a view of Geneva and an American view of Central Park Chicago. You don't find many 19th Century transferware pieces with Historical views of Chicago. Rare form for this pattern and even better with 2 American scenes. Condition is good for age, but not perfect. The soap dish is complete with base, insert, and lid. This lid has had the handle reattached (last pic). No other chips, cracks, or repairs on any of the pieces. Nice and clean.Typical clear crazing. Upon close inspection you may notice the typical transfer skips, stilt marks, bubbles in glaze, losses from sand grit, or other in- the-making manufacturing flaws typical from production from this period. Beautiful RARE very collectible example that has 2 American scenes on it ( one on bad and one on lid). Measures about 5 1/4" in diameter and about 3 1/2" tall overall. I have a couple of other pieces in this pattern listed separately, but would be unable to ship together, if others purchased, due to size and weight. Pictures are part of description.
