Description: Pictured here is a rare and exquisite mocha ware/yellow ware colander dating to sometime in the 1870's and we believe it to be American. It has a wide white band flanked by 2 blue stripes at the top and 1 blue stripe at the bottom of the band. On each side there are two abstract green seaweed decorations which are breathtaking in their design. The green seaweed can be very hard to find. The drainage holes are circular at the bottom with a series of four 5-hole piercings slightly above the bottom along the lower sides. The round foot has cut-out arches so that the bowl can drain properly. There are two small holes near the rim for hanging this colander. The former owner used a bit of leather for hanging it and we left it for later use. This lovely piece is about as near perfect as it can get. There are no chips, hairlines. repairs or damage of any kind. There is some normal age related crazing on the outside surface and a very, very pale stain around the drainage holes.
