Description: ORIGINAL HARRY STERNBERG (1904-2001) 'PRINCIPLE #3' DWARF SINING ETCHING AQUATINT This is a great piece. For those not familiar with the artist, I have listed his biography below. This has been in my personal collection for quite some time. It is very special and seems quite rare. According to a previous sale (one of only 3 I have been able to find) of one of the prints: "One of a series of 8 Principles created by the artist in 1931-32, which he describes as complex "moral statements." Sternberg considered the series to be some of his most successful print work. The editions were smaller than planned because, according to the artist, the delicate aquatint tones wore down quickly." A wonderful dark impression with the image measuring 8 1/4 x 11 1/2 inches with the plate mark measuring 10 x 13 3/4 inches. The sheet measures 10 1/2 x 14 1/4 inches. Signed, titled, and numbered in pencil below the image. Some obvious smudge markings outside the image and within the plate. Print is unframed and is a wonderful clean impression. Do your own research on this print. I have found one example pictured on the Whitney Museum's website. FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES! For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from askart reads: "Born in New York City, Harry Sternberg was a painter, muralist, lithographer and educator. During the Depression he was a WPA artist, and his murals are in post offices in Chicago, Chester and Sellersville, Pennsylvania. From 1934 to 1968, he taught painting and graphics at the Art Students League in New York, from 1942 to 1945 graphics at the New School of Social Research, and from 1959 to 1969 was head of the Art Department in the Idylwild School of Music and Art at the University of Southern California.
