Description: This bicolor PROOF on India paper certainly has a finer appearance than the corresponding stamps, which often have misregistered colors, off center, design cut into by perfs, faded color, and obliterating cancels. The design concept is very busy - shield and eagle, flags, stars, rays, branch, and the banner-like "thirty cents". Most of these were very common Union design elements during the Civil War. This particular piece has great color and details, is well centered. There is a bit of discoloration at the top right corner. It had been hinged long ago. And more affordable than the corresponding stamp. Scarcer too.
