Description: 1860's - 1880's WHEELER & WILSON Carved Sewing Machine Accessory Wooden Box Amazing Condition for the 150+ years of age !!! Restored by 3FTERS! Includes: - WHEELER & WILSON Sewing Machine Attachments Storage Wooden Embossed Box An extremely well preserved WHEELER & WILSON Sewing Machine Accessory Wooden Box which has been: -Restored to its Original Condition (as much was possible) Using Techniques that were used at the time by WHEELER & WILSON. *All maintenance & restoration done by 3FTERS Athens always adhering to their strict restoration program guidelines ! What makes this one box unique is that the wood grain is actually incorporated in the design! The grain is traveling across different adjacent sections, playfully creating an astonishing result not far from an artist's painting! And the box's finger joints add to this effect too. The carved design on the top cover is clear and you might even say, preserved like new. The design is popping out from the (cleverly chosen) darker background as if it's ready to come in life! All the designs are crystal clear and distinct and above all the 4 outer lines are 99% perfect while in most boxes the lateral ones (the left and right shorter ones) are segmented / fragmented as a result of the wood grain going vertical to them and the process creating and polishing them. The burgundy velvet interior is just as new also. Free of oil and grease stains or unpleasant odor. The hinges are original and their screws too. In perfect condition too. The latch, as in vast majority of those boxes nowadays, is not engaging well. All in all this small box is, as all WHEELER & WILSON boxes, a work of art, but this one in particular is amongst few exceptions! A masterpiece if we dare say:-) Dimensions approx: 8.5" x 3.5" x 2.75" or in centimeters 22cm x 8.5cm x 7cm Will be lovingly packed and delivered to new owner by post/courier. Restore vs Refurbish - What's the difference? As verbs the difference between restore and refurbish is that restore is to reestablish, or bring back into existence while refurbish is to rebuild or replenish with all new material. Source: wikidiff Since many people still keep asking questions about whether those items are repainted, with new stickers etc, we feel the need to clarify things. All items we list as “restored” are almost 100% originals, nothing new put on them other than oil & grease, rubber o-rings (tires), rubber feet, and motor/treadle belts, depending on the model. If a part is missing or damaged and we can't repair it, we'll replace it with one from a donor machine of the same era. Never a newer or a new one. We know vast majority of people don’t really differentiate the two terms nowadays but there is actually a huge difference between them. Those items are certainly ΝΟΤ repainted as many think, nor have we put new stickers / decals which would then label them as “renovated” or "refurbished". Everything was set in the factory. Always have in mind the time to restore an item, is multiple times the time needed to refurbish a same one. And although it is much, much more time consuming, we prefer this approach which preserves the authenticity and history of an item rather than just making it eye appealing but strip it from it's history and identity. Growing up in Athens, Greece watching the archeologists, since we were kids, painstakingly removing layer after layer of debris and foreign matter from the ancient finds in open dig sites the size of football fields using nothing more than small brushes and hand tools along with tons of patience may have contributed in our later days attitude towards items of historic significance ;-) Or at least we like to think so :-)) Thanks for looking and happy Buying !
