Corratge PROVENANCE Corratge studied at the San Alejandro Academy of Art (1949-1950) and at the University of Havana in the Architecture program (1950-1951), but his free spirit did not allow him to complete any of these specialties. His main vocation was directed towards the search for a more liberating pictorial expression; abstraction and in particular geometric abstraction. Although in 1953 he exhibited with the members of the Los Once group, who leaned more towards Abstract Expressionism. Between 1958-1961 he was part of the 10 Concrete Painters group, and he stood out as an important figure within it. His work has had a coherence that characterizes him because from that time until the end of his days he was dedicated to the research and experimentation of a formal line that locates him in Geometric Abstraction. In 2011, with the exhibition organized by the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, Cold America: Latin American Geometric Abstraction between 1934-1973, he was vindicated and legitimized on the international stage for his perseverance in the artistic path, considering himself as one of the most essential figures of Cuban origin in the genre."
