Description: THUS SPOKE ZARATHUSTRA Zarathustra is as different from its reputation as its author is different from the widely reproduced busts and pictures commissioned by his sister... The most important single clue to Zarathustra is that it is the work of an utterly lonely man. ... Zarathustra is not only a mine of ideas but also a major work of literature and a personal triumph. -From the Preface by WALTER KAUFMANN Thus Spoke Zarathustra was originally published in four separate parts. The first three appeared in 1883 and 1884, but there was no public estion of Part Four until eight years later. This delay was caused in part by Nietzsche's family, who feared that the book would be confiscated for blasphemy. As it turned out, Part Four was published in 1892 without serious repercussions. Soon thereafter a public edition of all four books appeared Walter Kaufmann's celebrated translation of Thus Spoke Zarathustra has not hitherto been available as a separate book. It has gained general recognition as the most authoritative version existing in English, and when it first appeared in The Portable Nietzsche, Newsweek found the translation "dazzling" and com- mended the "incandescent splendor of the language. Kaufmann himself is one of the foremost authorities on Nietzsche. His study Nietzsche: Philosopher, Psychologist, Antichrist was praised by Thomas Mann as "A work of great superiority over everything previously achieved in Nietzsche criticism and interpretation.“ ~~~~~~~~~|||~~~~~~~~~|||~~~~~~~~|||~~~~~~~~~~~ THANK YOU for looking at our listing.
